School system rolls out back-to-school ePacket effort

Aug. 5—Glynn County schools will move closer to their goal of reducing paper use this year with a back-to-school e-packet initiative.

The Glynn County School Board reviewed the plan for parents to complete the series of forms required at the start of this school year and each subsequent school year electronically at its business meeting on Thursday. Students return to school on Tuesday.

Families will not receive a bound back-to-school form during Open Houses, but will instead be asked to complete the packet online.

“Together with our public relations department and in line with our system’s strategic objective of moving towards a paperless administrative environment, we have implemented an electronic means of being able to retrieve some of the documents that we need to obtain at the start of year,” said Senetra Haywood, Director of Student Services.

Parents who need to fill out paper forms will be able to do so, Haywood assured school board members. Forms in Spanish are also available.

The effort is intended to ease the burden on parents, especially those with multiple children enrolled in the district. It will also reduce the number of forms that school staff will have to collect.

Parents receive a code that they can use on their phone or computer to access the forms to fill out.

The school district partnered with content management company Laserfiche to launch the effort.

“We use our own cloud-based storage through Laserfiche, just like we do with One Call, just like we do with Infinite Campus,” Haywood said.

Among the forms parents must complete are a Mandatory Attendance Agreement, Club Opt-Outs and a Behavior Contract.

In other business, the school board received a brief update on the status of the Center for the Arts, a performing arts center to be built in partnership with the College of Coastal Georgia on the Brunswick campus of college using $20 million previously raised through ESPLOST funds.

McKnight Construction was hired as the project’s contractor.

The schedule calls for hosting a groundbreaking site in April 2023, commencing construction in August 2023, and completing construction by February 2025.
