Owens Hired As New School System Transportation Director – PCPatriot

Pulaski County Public Schools is pleased to announce the hiring of Jonathan Owens as the new Director of Transportation for the school system.

Owens, a Dublin resident, started in his new position as soon as he was hired. An alumnus of the PCHS Class of 2006, he graduated from Bluefield University with a bachelor’s degree in business management and leadership, then earned his master’s degree in business administration with a minor in human resources from Liberty University.

Owens, who served in the U.S. Army as an 88L, Watercraft Engineer, brings a long list of skills and experience to the position. He has worked in manufacturing, material handling, sales, home improvement and security. His duties ranged from customer service to equipment operation and security. He is a certified EMT and Fire Fighter in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

“I’m excited for the challenges that will come with this new position and look forward to working with staff across the school system,” Owens said.

His new position will see him responsible for the development of several areas, including the development of efficient bus routes, the supervision of a team of bus drivers, the supervision of student transport car drivers, the supervision of transportation paraprofessionals, supervising transportation office staff, recruiting drivers, coordinating training for all drivers and paraprofessionals, assisting the school administration with disciplinary issues on buses, and developing transportation reports . This position requires proven strong organizational, leadership and human relations skills.
