Ouachita Parish School System Releases Updated COVID-19 Guidelines | KTVE

OUACHITA PARISH, La. (KTVE/KARD) – The Ouachita Parish School System has announced its updated COVID-19 guidelines.

The school system will require those who ride the buses, students and drivers/staff, to be required to wear a mask. They will also continue to use the seating plan for contact tracing.

Depending on the school system, masks will be strongly recommended but optional in all school buildings for adults and students. The school system says visitors will be limited, but they are required to wear a mask in schools.

The school system also says students and staff should socially distance themselves whenever possible. The CDC recommends 3 feet with masks or 6 feet without masks.

The school system has updated its quarantine and isolation guidelines in accordance with CDC recommendations.

Quarantine guidelines: For students and staff who are not vaccinated, if exposed to COVID, they must quarantine for five days and they can return if asymptomatic while wearing a properly fitted face mask for the next five days days. For vaccinated students and staff, if they have been exposed to COVID, they do not need to quarantine, but they must wear a properly fitted face mask for ten days.

Isolation instructions: If a student or staff member tests positive for COVID, regardless of their vaccination status, they must self-isolate for five days, with the first day of self-isolation being the date they test positive. If they are symptom-free or fever-free after five days, they can return to school or work with a properly fitted face mask for the next five days. If symptoms persist, they should continue to self-isolate until they are fever-free for 24 hours.
