New Bay District School System School Hosts School Registration Event

PANAMA CITY BEACH, FL. (WMBB) – From 8 to 10 a.m. on Saturday morning, Walsingham Academy held a student registration event. Parents and students arrived throughout the morning to register at the school and meet the teachers and administration.

“It’s a great opportunity for parents to come and see the school,” said Micah Holt, parent of an enrolled student. “Which many of us haven’t been able to see school yet. So to come and see the school and meet the director, meet some staff members, a lot of teachers are here.

The registration also gives Principal Amy Harvey more information on the number of students she can expect once the school year begins on August 10.

“It’s really important that parents get out there and sign up as early as possible so we know how many people to hire, how many textbooks to order, how many supplies we need, how many lunches to pack for the first day of school. school,” Harvey said.

Parents have been able to register for the school since February by phone, but many had yet to see the brand new school.

The interior of the school is still under construction, but there will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony on August 5 to officially open Walsingham Academy.

“The sooner we get parents to come sign up, the sooner we can hire the right number of teachers and buy the right textbooks and all that,” Harvey said.

Although Harvey said the school has prepared enough supplies and hired enough staff for the students already enrolled, she still doesn’t know how many more students will enroll.

“In general, people don’t even understand the process of hiring teachers, for example. So if I have two classes full of kids showing up the week school starts, there’s no way I can hire teachers in time for the first day of school.
