Alamance-Burlington School System Announces $10,000 Signing Bonus

ALAMANCE COUNTY, NC (WGHP) — Alamance-Burlington Superintendent Dr. Dain Butler announced $10,000 recruiting bonuses Thursday, according to an ABSS news release.

ABSS expects to pay $5,000 upfront, with the remaining $5,000 being paid in May 2023.

Bonuses are offered for the following positions:

  • Teachers holding a CTE in middle school and high school
  • mathematics and science in middle school and high school
  • Title I Elementary Schools – Main Class Teachers
  • Exceptional Children’s Teachers
  • speech therapists
  • TO
  • psychologists

“Districts across the country are trying to fill similar positions as fewer people choose to enter the profession. We hope these bonuses, coupled with our exceptional teacher support programs, will provide an added incentive to attract top educators to ABSS,” Butler said.

ABSS currently has over 100 teaching vacancies in its 37 schools.

The district plans to use the Federal Elementary-Secondary Schools Emergency Relief Fund (ESSER fund) to pay for traditional teacher positions and to use Medicaid Administrative Claims (MAC) money to cover teacher signing bonuses for exceptional children.

MAC money is reimbursement received for administrative support necessary to identify students in need of health services and to coordinate and monitor those ongoing health services identified under the Fee for Service Medicaid program.
